Cancer Foundation for New Mexico (CFFNM) volunteers assembled outside of the CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Cancer Center to cheer on nurses and medical staff who have been working daily with cancer patients. Volunteers observed social distancing guidelines and spread out along the length of the building, holding handmade signs (some in the shape of hearts), bearing messages like, “We ❤ Nurses.” This was a heartwarming scene for all, as nurses began gathering on the building’s balcony and were greeted by the cheering crowd.
Under normal circumstances, CFFNM volunteers spend their time inside the building providing support to nurses and patients during treatment. However, in light of the present health crisis, and to keep vulnerable cancer patients safe, only essential medical personnel are permitted in the treatment center.
We extend our gratitude to these volunteers (many of whom have been with CFFNM since its founding in 2003), for always finding new ways to brighten the lives of the medical staff and cancer patients wherever and however they can. We’re extremely fortunate to have them on our team!
