Beth Carlozzi passed away peacefully on September 15, 2018, at home surrounded by the family and within sound of the animals she loved.
In 2005, Beth and her beloved husband Steve Siegrist moved to Santa Fe – along with their dogs and horses – to be near his son, Zeb Siegrist, both of whom survive her. Since then, Beth has worked at the Christus St. Vincent Regional Cancer Center – first as nurse manager/clinical coordinator of medical and radiation oncology and more recently in the new position of nurse navigator.
Beth was known in the cancer care community in northern New Mexico as a tenacious and empathetic advocate for patients with cancer, focused on helping them negotiate their journey. The subject of her doctoral thesis — spirituality in cancer treatment and its impact on patient outcomes – was an outgrowth of some of her work in the cancer center. It was the first nursing research study at the cancer center and inspired some of her colleagues to perform studies of their own. Beth participated in the center’s Surviving and Thriving workshops, and her infectious laugh and compassion provided warmth to the waiting and infusion rooms and hallways.
Beth will be missed by all who knew her.
The family has not yet made plans for a memorial service, although her colleagues and family will be walking in her memory in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Santa Fe on October 6. Anyone wishing to may make a donation in her name to the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico may do so here.
