The Cancer Foundation for New Mexico Welcomes James Robert Borrego to its Board of Directors
Santa Fe, New Mexico – March 29, 2024 – The Cancer Foundation for New Mexico (CFFNM), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting New Mexicans affected by cancer, proudly announces the appointment of James Robert Borrego to its esteemed board of directors. A native of Santa Fe with deep family roots in New Mexico, James brings a wealth of experience, a solid commitment to community service, and a personal dedication to the mission of supporting cancer patients.
James Robert Borrego’s journey is intertwined with the rich tapestry of New Mexico. A graduate of New Mexico State University with a degree in Civil Engineering, James embarked on a career path that led him to work on engineering and constructing large power plants across the United States. In 1977, driven by a desire to contribute to his home state, he returned to New Mexico State University to further his studies. Subsequently, he co-founded a development and construction business with his brothers. Together, they undertook numerous commercial and residential projects throughout New Mexico, contributing to the state’s growth and development.
In 1980, James and his construction company relocated to Santa Fe, where he found professional success and personal fulfillment. He met and married Helen S. Pacheco, a fellow New Mexican, and established deep roots in the community.
James has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to serving his community throughout his illustrious career. He has served on various boards and commissions, including notable roles such as Commissioner of the New Mexico State Prison Board – Industries, President of the Santa Fe City Housing Authority – Development, and Regent for the State of New Mexico overseeing schools and universities. James serves as Commissioner for the New Mexico Construction Industries, where his expertise and leadership continue to make a meaningful impact.
In addition to his professional endeavors, James finds solace and joy in ranching with his family and pursuing outdoor activities such as camping and hunting. However, it is his journey with cancer that has fueled his passion for advocacy and community service.
Since 1995, James has battled various forms of cancer, giving him firsthand insight into the challenges faced by cancer patients and their families. His experiences have deepened his appreciation for the vital work performed by the Cancer Foundation for New Mexico in providing crucial support and resources to those affected by cancer.
Joining the board of directors of CFFNM is a natural extension of James Robert Borrego’s dedication to making a difference in the lives of others. His wealth of experience, unwavering commitment to community service, and personal connection to the foundation’s mission will undoubtedly strengthen its efforts to support cancer patients across New Mexico.
